Fast-rising dancehall artiste Youngwildapache is ready to prove why he belongs among dancehall’s next generation when he steps onto the stage at A Taste of Sumfest this weekend.

The We Did It artiste told THE WEEKEND STAR that fans can expect him to deliver songs from his latest EP, Legends from the Dirt, which speaks to his genesis in the industry and how far he has come despite still being a relatively young entertainer.

“My fans know say me hardworking and serious about bringing entertainment to a different level, so I have my new EP out, and they will get the full effect of the EP. We coming to perform those songs because we a forward from the dirt. If you check my fingernail, you see say we come from the dirt. So we ago give them those dedicated tracks and mek dem enjoy the atmosphere,” he said.

Born Rohan Reid, Youngwildapache, who appeared on the Reggae Sumfest stage on Night One last year, said his journey has also been boosted by the support of dancehall giant Vybz Kartel, who gave him a major endorsement.

“It was great for me because you know him a the king, so if the king say that about you, it must be special, so it’s a wonderful feeling and gesture. The song wey me sing wey Kartel love is Pain, so if me fi touch the stage wid the Teacha, him ago waa hear straight Pain,” he said.

Always working and honing his craft, he said that he released a new video on Wednesday titled Best, along with a new single with Bulby, Rude Boy, which has been going viral.

“Trust me, we have been putting in the work. I do like five songs a day, so we a record hard. After Sumfest, I’m off to Canada so right deh so, a more work we a put in,” he said.

On the passing of Fantan Mojah, Youngwildapache said that while he never actually worked with him, he fondly remembers holding many reasoning sessions with him under the tree at DownSound Entertainment.

“As the younger generation at DownSound, we get to chill and talk to Fantan, and he would share his experiences abroad. He was a great individual who always tell we as young artistes to stay humble. Him say ‘A nuff people come inna the yard and lose dem way... always keep your focus and always be humble’,” he recalled.
