IOC suggests mixed relay for 2020 Olympics
June 10, 2017
Athletics' world governing body, the IAAF, yesterday reacted with pleasure at the news that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is adding a mixed 4x400m relay to the athletics programme of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The discipline was tested earlier this year in Nitro Athletics and at the IAAF World Relays in The Bahamas, where Jamaica finished third.
The IAAF said the event was hugely successful and appealing for athletes and spectators alike. Pitching teams of two men and two women together, with the added dimension of team tactics, make this a vibrant, youthful and exciting competition.
